Here, these popular religious expressions are categorized under four  classifications according to the late Anscar Chupungco OSB.
Domenico Sartore classified the forms of popular religiosity under four categories:
(a) devotions to Christ, the Blessed Mother, and the saints; (b) rites related to the liturgical year; (c) traditional practices associated with the celebration of the sacrament and other Christian rites; and (d) institutions and religious objects associated with various forms of popular religiosity.
